Our Russian collectors'
set features a beautiful example of the rare Dronino ataxite personally
found by Geoff of Meteorite Men and his team while filming
Season Three, Episode Four in rural Russia during the summer of
2011. Ataxites are nickel-rich irons, and are a rare class of
meteorite. These slices were taken from the 3-kg Dronino mass
found during the expedition (the first one found on the program),
and its excavation is well featured in the episode.
This collectors' set consists of slices taken from the 3-kg Dronino

The specimens pictured below are the actual pieces you will receive.
Each piece is accompanied by the following:
• A hand made specimen identification card
• An exclusive color photo of Geoff with one of his Dronino
finds (personally signed by Geoff)
• A signed certificate of authenticity confirming that
this actual specimen was found on the show
Due to their unusual structure ataxties do not reveal a Widmanstätten
Pattern when etched. Instead, they display a most attractive and
unusual silvery grey matte finish, with small amoeba-like inclusions.
The cutting and etching process is extremely difficult and time
consuming with this particular meteorite. Viewers will have noted
that the original mass was rusty at the time of excavation. In
order to preserve this important ataxite, the exterior of the
mass was thoroughly cleaned of all loose material. Two different
prep labs worked on the cutting, cleaning, and conservation of
these specimens, and we are delighted to be able to offer a limited
number of full slices, with a signed certificate of authenticity,
to our customers.
These sets will be shipped by Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation.
